Betty Currier Obituary

Betty May (Jaques) Currier was born May 1, 1928 in Bismark, ND and went to her final resting place on April 2, 2024 in Spring Hill, KS, twenty-five years to the day that her husband, Jim, died.  She was the oldest of six children to Edna (Snyder) Jaques and Avalon Jaques.  She graduated from Bancroft High School in SD in the class of 1947.  Betty was united in marriage to James Kay Currier on March 23, 1949 at the home of her grandparents in Steele, ND. They had been married fifty years. Their daughter Dorothy was born in Bismarck, ND in 1950.  Dorothy was one year old when they moved to California where their son David was born in Scotia, CA in 1952.  Betty was a homemaker until Dorothy was a senior in high school and went to work for Fortuna Redwood Mill, making lawn furniture.  It was hard work but she enjoyed the friends she made while working.  She was a long time member of the Campton Heights Baptist Church and made many friends there, some who became like family.  She left California in 2011 when her daughter and husband moved her to Paola, KS to live with them.  She became a member of the First Baptist Church of Paola.  Betty was proceeded in death by her parents Avalon and Edna Jaques, her husband Jim, son David Currier, granddaughter Stacie Dempsey, brothers Morris Jaques, Donald Jaques, Lyle Jaques.  She is survived by her daughter Dorothy (Harold) Hendrickson of Paola, sister Donna Hamann of Redding, CA, brother Loren (Brenda) Jaques of Salzer, CA, granddaughters Abby (Danny) Cavender, Cassy (Will) Osborn, grandsons Scott (Matt) Shappell-Fineout, Jim (Sarah) Shappell,  Gabriel (Michelle)  Ross, CJ Dempsey, great grandchildren Ali Shappell, Kyla Shappell (Tyler Chaffee-engaged), Coy Cavender, Cash Cavender, Amelia Osborn, Piper Osborn, Cyler Dempsey, Addison Dempsey, Nathan Heredia, Justin Heredia.  She will be buried next to her husband at the Masonic Cemetery in Rohnerville, California.  There will be a memorial service in Paola to be announced at a later date.
